Master plans to be presented in open houses, exhibition
Representatives from Sasaki Associates will present updated versions of the UNL Campus and Landscape Master Plans during open house sessions on Jan. 22 and 23. The UNL master plan process will also be featured in a College of Architecture exhibition opening Jan. 22.
The master plan open houses are Jan. 22 in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room and Jan. 23 in the East Union Great Plains Room. The open house sessions, which are free and open to the public, are 3 to 5 p.m. both days. Read more about these open houses in Today@UNL.
Volunteers sought for Jan. 23 MLK day of service
UNL is holding a day of community service Jan. 23 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Various volunteer activities around Lincoln will be offered. Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate in the event.
Early registration for "MLK Day of Service — Leading the Dream" is available via email. Registration will also be offered at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at the first-floor desk in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. Free CPR training sessions are Jan. 24
Lincoln Fire and Rescue is offering CPR training sessions to UNL faculty, staff and students on Jan. 24. The 30-minute sessions are 9 a.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium and 1:30 p.m. in the East Union, Goldenrod Room.
The training session will feature the "Hands Only" technique, which is compression-only CPR — no mouth-to-mouth contact. "Hands Only" is quick and easy to learn. It is also hard to forget and at least as effective as traditional CPR.
Sign-up under way for new UNL Alert, confirm information
Students, faculty and staff are asked to sign up once again for UNL Alert in a new system. On Jan. 17, UNL joined the statewide alert system through Twenty First Century Communication for cost-savings and for improved service.
Between 7-8:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 there was a crossover between the previous program and the new program. If you signed up during that time please, sign in again and confirm your information. Read more about UNL Alert in Today@UNL.

Filmmaker to lead Q&A session at the Ross
Patrick Wang, director/writer/actor, will participate in a question and answer session following the 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center screening of his film "In the Family." The film opens Jan. 18 at the Ross.
Wang graduated MIT with a degree in economics and a concentration in music and theatre arts. As an economist, he has studied energy policy, game theory, and income inequality at the Federal Reserve Bank, the Harvard School for Public Health and other organizations. 'Sunday Scientist' explores bugs, blood, and bad guys of forensic science
Did you know that blowflies and beetles are the greatest decomposers in the world? While their consumption of dead things is not pretty, it is an essential part of nature. And that process of decomposition will be explored during the "Sunday with a Scientist" event, Jan. 20 at the University of Nebraska State Museum.
"Blowflies, Beetles and Bad Guys: Ecology and Forensic Science" will be presented by Amanda Fujikawa and Christian Elowsky, doctoral students in the School of Natural Resources. The event will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Morrill Hall. Read more about Sunday Scientist in Today@UNL.
Church bombing survivors to lead MLK Week lecture
Three sisters who survived the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Ala., in 1963 will be among the keynote speakers at the Chancellor's Program on Jan. 22 during MLK Week, UNL's observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Sarah Collins-Rudoph, Janie Collins-Simpkins and Junie Collins-Williams will be featured, along with political scientist, writer and speaker Tracy Snipe of Wright State University in the program beginning at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Nebraska Union. Read more about this lecture in Today@UNL.

Hypnotist performs at East Union Friday
Hypnotist Jim Wand will perform back-to-back shows at 7 and 9 p.m. Jan. 18 in the East Union's Great Plains Room. The event, organized by the University Program Council, is free for UNL students (with a valid NCard) and $5 for all others.
Wand, who has a doctorate in psychology, has been involved in the field of hypnosis for more than 25 years. He is regarded as one of the most professional hypnotic entertainers in the world. A well-known entertainer for college students, Wand has also worked with such personalities as Jay Leno, Chris Rock, Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Probst, and others.

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.
You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone.
