Forensics team finishes seventh in the nation
The UNL speech and debate team finished its 142nd season with strong performances at national tournaments.
UNL placed seventh nationally and first among Big Ten teams at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament on April 6-8 Hutchinson, Kan. Seventy-eight schools and 500 students competed. The team placed in the top 10 for the fifth straight year and in the top 20 for the 18th straight year. Read more about this team in Today@UNL.
Seiler inducted into communicators hall of fame

William Seiler, professor of communication studies, has been inducted into the Central States Communication Association's Hall of Fame. Seiler received the award and delivered an address during the association's annual conference, held April 2-7 in Kansas City. Only two members of the association were inducted into the hall of fame this year.
Induction into the Central Sates Communication Association's Hall of Fame recognizes the highest level of service to the association through mentoring of fellow members; fulfilling the responsibilities of various offices; regular participation on conference panels as a presenter or respondent; and advancing the mission of the association through other means. Money management center wins award
The UNL Student Money Management Center received an award of merit from the American Marketing Association. The award was for the center's 2012 integrated marketing communications campaign, which included building a financial education brand.
The UNL Student Money Management Center is a financial education program. It was developed through a partnership between Student Affairs, the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska, and the child, youth and family studies program in the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Blue Man Group opens Lied's new season
The Lied Center for Performing Arts' 24th season will include 51 performances of 31 shows from a wide range of genres including Broadway, classical music, dance, theater, world music and jazz, comedy, holiday performances, folk music and shows for families.
The 2013-14 season, announced earlier this week, opens Sept. 27-29 with the return of Blue Man Group after its five sold-out Lied performances in 2011. Tony Award-winning musicals "Memphis" (Nov. 12-13), "Hair" (March 15) and "West Side Story" (April 4-5) join with '80s rock musical "Rock of Ages" (Feb. 15) to complete next season's Broadway lineup. Steve Goddard has been appointed to the position of interim dean in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Arts and Sciences. Ellen Weissinger, senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, announced the appointment Wednesday. Goddard will formally accept the appointment, which is pending Board of Regents approval, July 1.
A member of UNL's faculty since 1998, Goddard has served as chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering since August 2008. He has served on the Chancellor's Commission on the Status of Women, the ADVANCE-Nebraska Faculty Committee, the UNL Faculty Senate's Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and has for the past several months led a campus-wide task force to study the potential role and impact of MOOCs - massive online open courses - at UNL. Helgenberger, Hill join Hixson-Lied Advisory Board
Emmy Award-winning actress Marg Helgenberger and Academy Award-winning film editor Mike Hill have joined the Hixson-Lied Advisory Board.
The Hixson-Lied Advisory Board was created to review and react to proposals for funding support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment to benefit the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and its affiliated organizations. Think Tank registration deadline is May 15
The annual communicators' "Think Tank," sponsored by University Communications, is May 21 at the Champions Club. The registration deadline is May 15.
Participants will hear from three top national speakers, focusing on content and contact strategy. Cost is $50 and includes snacks, all sessions, lunch, a book and a T-shirt. Space is limited to 200 participants. Get more information and register on the Think Tank website.
