Unfortunately due to current health directives, the 2020 Premier Animal Science Event (PASE) Livestock Quiz-Bowl, Livestock Skill-a-thon, Poultry Judging and Meats Judging contests have been cancelled.

The 2020 PASE state 4-H Livestock Judging Contest will be held IN-PERSON on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the UNL Animal Science Complex Arena. Registration/Check-in will begin at 7 a.m. with the contest beginning at 8 a.m. Currently the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest is moving forward as planned. This contest will serve to qualify a winning 4-H team from Nebraska for the national level.

Lancaster County Senior level 4-H’ers (ages 14-18) who are interested in competing in the State 4-H Livestock Judging competition, please contact 4-H Extension Assistant Calvin DeVries at 402-441-7180 or calvin.devries@unl.edu ASAP. There will be one practice scheduled on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 2-4 p.m. at the Lancaster Event Center Fairgrounds 4-H office prior to this contest. 4-H Volunteer Roger Bell will coach the team. A mock contest will be scheduled during this practice if needed to select 5 individuals to represent Lancaster County at the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest. Current health directives will be in place during this practice. The state deadline for registration is Sept. 16.

Modifications to the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest are listed below:
• This will be a Senior Division Only contest. Each County’s team will be limited to 5 contestants and only one coach and one other chaperone if needed.
• Everyone attending the contest will wear a mask and hand sanitizer stations will be present throughout the facility.
• Livestock classes will be arranged in a more spread-out fashion may be implemented a 2-round system for the placings portion of the contest.
• Youth will maintain at least 10-foot distancing from reasons takers during that portion of the competition.
• A live awards ceremony will not occur on site. Awards will either be announced on Facebook live or simply sent out by email. Actual awards will be mailed.
• Pencils, clipboards, paper, etc. will not be provided. Each team shall bring their own materials.
• Lunch will not be provided. The contest is estimated to finish by 1-2 p.m.
