New in 4-H at Super Fair

The 2021 Lancaster County Super Fair will be July 29–Aug. 7 at the Lancaster Event Center Fairgrounds. 4-H & FFA Exhibits & Events are planned for July 29–Aug. 1, and 4-H Horse Shows July 28–Aug. 1. The Lancaster County 4-H & FFA Fair Book contains entry information for exhibiting in 4-H/FFA at the Super Fair. Fair Books have been mailed to all 4-H/FFA families. It is also available at the Extension office and online at http://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/Fair. The online version indicates changes from last year in green text. Many fair handouts, forms and videos are, or will be, on this website.

• Dog Virtual Trivia Contest — Preregistration is not required. Contest will be available Thursday, June 3, Noon–Sunday, June 6, 11:59 p.m. Contest links and for each age division as well as study resources will be posted to https://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/fair/virtualanimals.

• Archery — Now part of the Shooting Sports contests. In addition to age divisions, archers will be classified according to bow styles. Date and location TBA.

• Presentation topics must be related to new themes.

• Lancaster County Fair 150th Anniversary Theme 4-H Static Exhibits — Help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Lancaster County Fair with a 150 years theme 4-H exhibit! 150 anniversary 4-H static exhibits will be grouped in a special display and receive a commemorative 150th ribbon in addition to the judge’s ribbon! The top exhibit in each anniversary class will receive a 150th rosette. One top award will be selected from all the anniversary classes! • Animal Pen/Stall/Table Decorations — 4-H/FFA animal exhibitors are encouraged to decorate their pen/stall/table areas with a 150 years theme. Decorations must be kept out of reach of all animals.

• Outdoor Adventures — Static exhibit classes are being offered to go with the national 4-H curriculum, levels 1–3. These are not eligible for State Fair.

• Alice Doane Memorial Wool Award to Top Wool Garment or Item — Must be at least 50% wool fiber — to be eligible, must indicate fiber content on static exhibit entry tag.

• Special Agronomy Project — Three new classes under Field Crops. Youth experience a crop that is grown, was grown or has the potential to be grown in Nebraska by growing it, researching traits of that crop and determining viability of that crop in the part of the state they live. Each year, seeds will be mailed to Extension offices or ag ed classrooms across the state, as ordered by that location. Offices will distribute to youth on a first-come, first-served basis. A different seed will be selected every year. Youth will grow seeds in their garden or pots. 2021 special agronomy project plant is teosinte, one of the parent plants of modern corn.

• Sheep — Unified Showmanship class is open to special needs 4-H youth ages 8–18.
