The Lancaster County 4‑H Plant Science Contests will be held in-person on Tuesday, June 16, 10 a.m.–Noon at the Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County conference rooms, 444 Cherrycreek Road, Suite A, Lincoln. Register by Monday, June 15 by calling 402‑441‑7180. Open to 4‑H members ages 9–18 from all counties.

Youth choose which contest(s) to participate in:
Tree Identification — identify tree samples. The 2026 Nebraska 4‑H Tree List will be used.
Grass & Weed Identification — identify grass and weed samples. The 2025 Nebraska 4‑H Weed & Grass Plant List will be used.
Horticulture Contest — identify samples of vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs and landscape ornamentals. The plant list contains plants commonly used or sold in Nebraska.

Participants will be able to use a list of plants while identifying samples. Study materials and tree/plant lists are at https://lancaster.unl.edu/hort-fair.

These are Lancaster County Super Fair 4‑H contests held before the fair and Lancaster County 4‑H'ers must pick up premium payouts on Monday, Aug. 3, 7–11 a.m. at the Sandhills Global Event Center – Ag Society Hall. Ribbons will be awarded at the same time or mailed.


Accommodation requests for registration or attendance may be directed to Karen Wobig at least two weeks prior to the program at lancaster@unl.edu or 402‑441‑7180. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet access needs.
