The Special Garden Project is a way to offer 4-H members the chance to grow unusual and fun projects in their gardens. This year the Special Garden Project is focused on the unique Classic Magic Bachelor Button. Classic Magic Bachelor Buttons are a unique mix of plum, purple, and bicolor flowers. Not only do the flowers attract beneficial insects, the flowers are edible as well.
Youth should enroll for the Special Garden Project through 4-H Online. Once enrolled through 4-H Online, youth are then to call their local office to let them know they enrolled for the project. By enrolling through 4-H Online, youth will have access to the box folder with the educational materials including the growing newsletter & evaluation. Please double check the number of youth enrolled through 4H Online so enough seeds are ordered for the county.
Counties will still be responsible for ordering the seeds. To order seeds: Complete the Google form (https://go.unl.edu/2020specialgardenprojectorder) by February 1st how many youth you think will participate, and I will order bulk seed the middle of February.
The cost to enroll in the project will be around $0.50/youth.
The flyer to help promote the project and a letter including alternative ways to exhibit in this project are available on Box https://go.unl.edu/classicmagicresources or visit the website at https://4h.unl.edu/special-gardening-project. If you need a photo to use for you newsletter, please let me know and I will forward the one the company sent to me.
Each year we continue to make improvements to this project. If you have suggestions or any questions about the project please contact me: elizabeth.killinger@unl.edu, 308-385-5088. Thanks. Elizabeth
