The State Fair Management Team has been hard at work transitioning to a new platform for the State Fairbooks in 2020 and are we are excited to share it with you! New in 2020, the 4-H Fairbook for the Nebraska State Fair utilizes a new, online database system, that has been created specifically for Nebraska 4-H. This system displays the changes made to each department and division in a template format that is consistent throughout all entries of the Fairbook; this system replaces the Microsoft Word documents containing track changes. While using a new system is indeed a change for everyone, we do anticipate that the online database system for the State 4-H Fairbook will provide the following benefits this year and for years to come:
• Closer connections to educational resources and 4-H curriculum
• Additional opportunities to share exhibit examples through photos, web links, etc.
• Improved searchability
• Ability to export usage reports (quotas, page views, and more)
• Future opportunities to automatically export the content of the State 4-H Fairbook into a County 4-H Fairbook
The 2020 Fairbook with track changes can be viewed at (https://4hfairbookmanage.unl.edu/fairbookview.php). User name is "4huser" and password is "learning2020." Please consider the followings as you navigate the Current Display of Changes:
• Upon arriving to the site ignore the formatting information on the home page and refer to the department entries in Contests, Live Animals, and Static Exhibits on the right-hand side of the page. Note: The General Rules are not current and will be updated in January.
• The fonts and sizes may be displayed differently throughout the entries; this will continue to be refined.
• Because the information in all departments was placed into a consistent template, some of the information may be displayed as a track change, but it was really moved into a different location within the Fairbook entry template.
• Fields that display “null” do not contain data in the current template. Reformatting the information in each department to fit the template more completely will continue throughout the year and will not change the information shared for 2020; the 2021 NSF 4-H Fairbook will more fully utilize these fields and information will be more consistent across departments.
• Note: You will not see edits for SET Careers (Geospacial & Woodworking), this has been eliminated for 2020 and you will not see a Fairbook for the Public Speaking Contest, those details will be coming soon!
Track Changes Key: The track changes appear very similar to those in a Word document.
• Red underlined text are hyperlinks to other information
• Green text are additions
• Red strikethrough are deletions
The Fairbook is only available to staff at this time. As you review, please let us know if you have any questions. Our goal is to go live for the public view with track changes accepted by early February, 2020.
