
The 1990 National Environmental Education Act established the Presidential Environmental Youth Award (https://www.epa.gov/education/presidents-environmental-youth-award), PEYA, to recognize outstanding environmental stewardship projects from K–12 students that promote environmental awareness and community engagement. It also created the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators (https://www.epa.gov/education/presidential-innovation-award-environmental-educators), PIAEE, which honors exceptional educators who integrate environmental education and place-based learning into their teaching and school operations.
Please take a moment to review the revised criteria as projects should align with one or more of the updated areas of focus below. Applications for both awards are due by Monday, June 23, 2025.
Eligible projects must align with one or more of the following topics:
- Agricultural practices
- Artificial Intelligence
- Food waste
- Lead in drinking water
- Recycling
- School gardens
- Sustainability
- Using STEM in environmental education
- Water infrastructure
- Water quality and/or litter within waterways
