"Communication access is one of the most vital things in our lives. We receive and share information in order to learn, to educate, and to build relationships. In the middle of this pandemic, it is even more stressful for people with Disabilities because our access to communication is challenged, i.e. people wearing masks. It is hard for people to understand the importance of accommodations for communication access. However, with the Communication Studies department here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, instead of questioning my accommodations, they immediately embraced my needs for my access to communication. In my opinion, I would not even want to go through this pandemic in an academic setting with any other department except with the Communication Studies department. As a Deaf person and a Ph.D. scholar here at UNL, I know I made the right decision by choosing my field in Communication Studies."
