In the fall, HIST 300 will be focusing on collecting, preserving and sharing the history of the #BLM movement in Lincoln from the mid-2010s through the present. We will be collecting oral history interviews from students and community members who participated in, led and responded to protests and demonstrations on campus and in the community, as well as digitizing media coverage of events, photographs, political ephemera and other materials related to the #BLM movement. This is a unique opportunity, then, for undergraduate students (particularly Ethnic Studies students interested in racial justice!) to help make sure that this critically important recent history is preserved and shared. As we know, the past is quickly politicized and contested. So, by documenting the #BLM movement in Lincoln, we hope to help establish the historical record and ensure that the voices and experiences of organizers and participants are included.
