DROP-IN ADVISING

Drop-in advising is great for short questions about course information, grade option, completing forms and other things of that nature. Students should schedule an academic advising appointment to discuss degree plans and goal setting. Drop-in advising is available via zoom only, Tuesdays from 1- 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. You will enter the Zoom waiting room at https://unl.zoom.us/my/casadvising and be seen in the order you entered.

The CAS Ambassador Program – Taking Applications

CAS Ambassadors are a valuable part of the recruitment efforts for the College of Arts and Sciences. As an Ambassador, you will represent our college and talk to prospective students and families about your experiences at UNL. What you will get in return for helping with recruitment efforts includes: public speaking skills, connection with peers in your college, and opportunities to grow personally and professionally through the three pillars of our program: Volunteering, Team Building, and Professional and Leadership Development.

Global Cafe: Ambassador Meet and Greet

We would like to invite you to a unique opportunity on campus next week. Tuesday, October 25th, UNL will host four former U.S. Ambassadors for the 2022 Nebraska Ambassadors Forum. Our event is a partnership between UNL and UNO, Burlington Capital in Omaha, and the American Academy of Diplomacy in Washington D.C. The Forum is an annual program that brings distinguished diplomatic practitioners to speak with students and community leaders in Lincoln and Omaha. This year’s program was developed jointly by the Academy in cooperation with UNL, UNO and Burlington International, whose funding has made this program possible.

Our guests will be speaking on an interactive panel on the topic of Latin America: The Neighbor We Ignore at Our Peril. This event is open to the public but requires advance registration. The forum will be held inside the Willa Cather Dining Complex, Red Cloud Room from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Willa Cather Dining Complex is located just north of Knoll Residence Hall, and just south of the Vine Street recreation fields.

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) is a fully funded overseas summer study program, unique in its goal to support more diverse students to learn languages that are critical to America’s national security and economic prosperity. Applicants are selected based on their plans to apply their language skills to their future academic or professional pursuits in any field. The CLS Program offers summer instruction at overseas institutions for the following languages: Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Persian, Portuguese, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, Korean, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. The first nine languages listed are open to students at all language levels, including beginners. Arabic, Korean and Russian requires one year of prior study, and Chinese and Japanese requires two years of prior study. A virtual program called CLS Spark is also available for Arabic, Chinese, and Russian at the beginning level.
CLS applications are currently open. Students will have until November 15, 2022, at 7:00 pm Central Time to complete the application. Finalists will be announced in March.

 

INTERN WITH CONGRESSMAN DON BACON’S OMAHA OFFICE

Congressman Don Bacon’s Omaha Office is looking for Interns to help during the upcoming Spring semester. We’re looking for students who have interest in politics, social work, public relations, public policy, or involvement with the local community. In this position, students will have the opportunity to work with constituent issues and build foundations that will help them entering other fields. Internships are available throughout the year and are open to all students and recent graduates; however, priority is given to Nebraskans as well as students attending a Nebraska University/College. We will work with schools that award academic credit for service in both offices. Paid internships in the D.C. office are available.

In the District office, interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the office’s outreach with residents of Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District through constituent services, administrative tasks, writing letters, and assisting with media clips. Interns may also assist with constituent casework, which includes interacting with federal agencies, and district-focused events.
Spring: January – April
Summer: May – August
Fall: September – December

LEGISLATIVE INTERN

OutNebraska empowers and celebrates thriving LGBTQ+ communities across the state.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Working closely with the Community Organizer the Legislative Intern will help to identify and
track bills, calendar committee hearings, and support the policy committee of the board to
prioritize our legislative agenda. The Legislative Intern will support the Community Organizer in
activities to engage constituents in grassroots lobbying. This position will primarily be remote but
some availability to be at the State Capitol may be required.
Primary Responsibilities
● Search for/read bills relevant to OutNebraska constituents including BIPOC community
members, and community members who are system impacted
● Create a free Bill Tracker account with Nebraska Unicameral to track bills
● Support ED in calendaring committee hearings and prepping testimony
● Support Board Policy Committee by prepping bill summaries
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is part-time, temporary January - June 2022 as relevant to the legislative session.
Compensation will be paid $200/monthly not to exceed $1,200. There are no benefits available
for this position.

2023 Central States Communication Association President's Undergraduate Honors Research Conference

The 2023 Central States Communication Association (CSCA) President’s Undergraduate Honors Research Conference (UHRC) will be held Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 during the 92nd annual CSCA convention in St. Louis, MO. The UHRC offers undergraduate students an opportunity to share their original research projects and provides a forum through which they can inquire about graduate study, meet graduate faculty, and interact with some of the leading scholars in the discipline of communication.
