
Family Service Lincoln, a trusted local nonprofit dedicated to Helping Families Thrive for over 130 years, is currently seeking Spring Interns to join its impactful Youth Development programs.
The Youth Development team supports students in Kindergarten through 5th grade and their families across 21 Lincoln Public Schools through licensed Before & After School programs. Interns can choose from flexible shifts: 7:00–9:15 AM and/or 2:30–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with up to 10 shifts available per week.
Current interns represent a wide range of majors, including English, Communications, Child, Youth & Family Studies (CYFS), Education, Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. This hands-on internship offers valuable experience in:
- Implementing lesson plans and behavior strategies
- Leading group activities and supervising students
- Communicating with families and school staff
- Engaging in meaningful play and relationship-building with children
Interns also receive paid training in essential areas such as CPR/First Aid, Child Abuse & Neglect, Classroom Management, and Challenging Behaviors. Additional professional development opportunities include:
- Attending a Family Service Lincoln Board Meeting
- Observing principal or parent meetings
- Shadowing School Community Coordinators
- Leading programming to build leadership and facilitation skills
As part of a licensed program, interns must complete required State and Federal trainings within 30 days of their start date—all of which are paid. Orientation is mandatory and offered on January 6th, with two time slots available: 8:00 AM–12:30 PM or 2:00 PM–6:30 PM. Interns may begin working on-site once their background check is approved. The internship concludes on May 20th, aligning with the end of the LPS school year.
