Taylor Anderson is a Senior Communication Studies and Global Studies double major. She minors in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs and Women's and Gender Studies.
How did you find Communication Studies?
Coming to UNL as a freshman I knew I wanted to be a global studies major, but my dad pushed me toward adding another major that was more marketable on the job market. I originally was planning on adding a journalism major or AD/PR. During freshman orientation, I was placed in COMM 220 Public Advocacy and Civic Engagement and I was hooked. I declared Communication Studies officially my soon after that class.
What do you like most about being a Communication Studies major?
I love the versatility and the flexibility of the major. I can tailor my degree to my interests, but am also learning skills that can be applied in a variety of contexts. I also think the Communication Studies Department does an amazing job of making classes feel small and personal.
What is your favorite class?
COMM 380, Communication and Gender. This class hit on very timely and important issues that I think all UNL students should be required to learn about. Further, it combined my interest of human rights, women's and gender studies and Communication studies.
What are some of the cool things you've been able to do as a student here at UNL?
I have had so many it is hard to pick! My favorite was probably my study abroad experience last spring. I spent spring 2017 in Seville Spain and traveling around Europe. It was amazing!
What are your plans after graduation?
I am planning on taking a gap year before pursuing law school for international law.
