Kylie Hanson Communication Studies Major

Kylie is a Senior Communication Studies Major with a minor in Criminology.

How did you find Communication Studies?
I found Comm Studies actually before started at the University. I was a speech competitor in high school and my family and close friends always told me Communication was my strong suit. I ignored what I loved my first two years here to pursue a degree in nursing and quickly found I should have listened to those who love me. As a sophomore I changed my major to communication studies and I couldn't have made a better choice. Now I'm a senior and can't wait to see where communication takes me.

What do you like most about being a Communication Studies major?
It's totally me. I understand concepts and ideas that surround communication studies which makes it more fun for me. It's less of schooling for me and more like exploring the world through a communication perspective. Which I love.

What is your favorite class?
I love the dark side of interpersonal communication. It's a completely different way of looking at the socially constructed world that we live in!

Tell us about some of the cool things you've done here as a student at UNL.
As an undergrad I've been a part of the William H. Thompson learning community and being a part of such an amazing group on campus has opened the doors to so many new people.

What are your post graduation plans?
I hope to pursue a career that will allow me to give back to my community. I have some time to figure out exactly where I belong, but my plan is to find work that doesn't feel like work. I hope to continue raising my daughter and helping her grow to see the world with communication in mind as well.
