Fall 2018 in underway! My name is Timothy Turnquist, the major advisor for Communication Studies. I am happy to welcome you—or welcome you back—to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Moreover, I am honored to be part of Communication Studies, and know the Department is thrilled to work with you this fall. In the College of Arts and Sciences, we embrace the value of Academics + Experience = Opportunities. Therefore, I encourage you to connect with your professors and with me if you have any questions or concerns moving forward. Overall, UNL offers amazing resources to help you succeed such as the First-Year Experience & Transition Program, which offer a variety of success/academic workshops.
For advising needs, you’ll find me in 403 Oldfather Hall. In October, I—along with Communication Studies—will be moving to Louise Pound Hall, formerly the old College of Business Administration. I will be able to give more moving-day information as October approaches.
In COMM Connections, pay attention to the Advisor’s Corner, which will remind you of important academic deadlines, advising hours, and university events. As Fall 2018 begins, keep in mind the following:
• I am taking walk-in appointments only from August 20 to August 28. Walk-ins can last up to 20 minutes, and deal mostly with immediate course/enrollment concerns. There will be a sign-up sheet next to my office door; this will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Starting August 29, I will be taking regular 30-minute appointments, as well as walk-in hours on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until Priority Registration. Appointments are best for more in-depth graduation and semester planning, problem solving, as well as internship and study abroad queries. Search for my name on MyPlan and make an appointment there. Select the time slot that works best for you!
I look forward to getting to know you this fall!
