The Communication Studies Department seeks an intern for the Spring 2019 semester! The successful candidate will be a creative self-starter who is majoring in Communication Studies and how has an interest in and preferably experience with social media marketing strategies.

This internship is unpaid, though the successful candidate can register for up to 3 hours of COMM 395 credit in the Spring 2019 semester.

Social Media Strategist and Marketing Internship
Communication Studies Department
In this internship, student will serve as the social media specialist for the Communication Studies Department. The student will create, schedule, and monitor social media posts on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. The student will be guided by a faculty member in the department to promote the major and events through various social platforms. This individual would be able to get hands on experience working as a social media coordinator and learning more about digital communication. The goal of this position is to increase the department’s social media presence and give the student real world experience.

The successful candidate will work with the Assistant Chair of the department to establish a consistent 10 hour per week schedule for work along with specific goals that should be met throughout the course of the semester, and will work with Communication Studies Advisor to ensure the internship is providing an opportunity for the student to meet/enhance the development and understanding of one or more of the Communication Studies major learning outcomes.

- Qualifications include:
 Strong written and verbal communication skills
 Familiarity with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat
 Ability to analyze social media analytics and create a schedule for posts
 An interest in communication, social media, and/or marketing
 The ideal candidate will be a major in Communication Studies
 Excellent attention to detail and a motivation to learn
 Would prefer someone with Microsoft, Photoshop, or InDesign experience
 Some graphic design/typography skills preferred, to assist with designing flyers or ads for use in social media as well as printed posters for specific Comm. Studies events.

 Manage/Create Department of Communication Studies
• Facebook
• Twitter
• Instagram (need to create)
• Snapchat (need to create)
• Also need to interact with other related accounts (College of Arts and Sciences Facebook page, speech and debate team accounts, etc.)
 Connect with UNL official accounts to take over Instagram and/or Snapchat for the day to showcase Communication Studies at UNL
 Integrate departmental messaging (i.e., advocate, negotiate, and relate and the main emphases areas of health and well-being, identity and difference, and civic engagement) into social media content.
 Develop a portfolio of content/campaigns from your management of the department’s social media presence
 Create regular content schedules for each of the platforms
 Create content for social media posts:
• High resolution photography
• Interviews
