2020-08 President's Letter

As we begin to look forward to fall and the return of students to our campus, this August looks much different than it has in the past. Since most people will be preparing for a safe return to campus, we will not be having a program this month. I strongly encourage everyone to check out the resources and information for the Fall 2020 Experience for Employees. For those working with instructors/faculty and students, there is information specific for them on this site as well. You can also find a variety of resources from Human Resources on how to keep working and stay safe as well as looking out for your personal well-being.

For those of you still working at home, I invite you to read "8 Habits for Leading a Remote Workforce" from the Association of Talent Development (ATD).  While it is written for managers, any employee can learn how to better collaborate virtually. In short, the eight habits are:

1. Include Only Relevant Thoughts and Information
2. Organize Your Message Around Key Points
3. Create a Plan
4. Specify “What,” Not “How”
5. Ask Open-Ended Questions
6. Link Individual Assignments With Your Team’s Purpose
7. Initiate Relationships
8. Make Others Feel Valued and Appreciated

Please stay safe, everyone. We will keep you informed of our next meeting in September. We hope to see all of you soon, whether it is in person or online.

Ranelle Maltas
2020-21 UAAD President

Meeting Survey

UAAD & UNOPA are interested in your thoughts about meetings for the upcoming year. The third Wednesday of each month from Noon to 1PM, UNOPA and UAAD will be holding U2 meetings for staff. The meetings will alternate, with one month featuring an informational presentation or workshop followed by a meeting with more of a networking and social focus the following month. A schedule of the meeting topics will be posted once more details are available. To ensure that the meetings are useful to members, we have created a short survey asking about members’ interests in topics as well as preferences for holding events during social distancing.

The survey should take five minutes or less to complete and can be completed online.
Please complete the survey by 8AM on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
