President’s Message

The University of Nebraska system is faced with a $49 million reoccurring budget shortfall. The overview of the Budget Response Team Implementation Strategies may be found here https://nebraska.edu/-/media/unca/docs/brt/overview-of-budget-reduction-strategies-rev-september-12-2017.pdf. This is a monumental task and one that is not without difficulty. As an association we will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Marjorie Kostelnik, Senior Associate to the President, who is heading up the implementation plans of the university wide efforts at the October 18 General Meeting. I encourage you to attend, be informed, ask questions, and engage in solutions.

Chancellor Green shared in the September Town Hall meeting that in addition to the Budget Response Efficiencies there will be additional Budget Reallocations & Reductions necessary on the campus level. These reallocations and reductions will follow the procedures outlined by the Academic Planning Committee. As the UAAD President, I will be representing you the member, in this process. More information may be found here http://www.unl.edu/apc/docs/Budget_Reallocation_FlowCharts.pdf.

Our General Meetings each month will have a focused time on hearing from the membership, so that your voice can be heard through me as I represent staff to the committee. Again, I encourage you to actively engage in the association and share your thoughts, concerns and ideas.
