Humanities Internship at the National Willa Cather Center
Funded through a collaboration between the University of Nebraska and the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, Nebraska.
The National Willa Cather Center (NWCC) in Red Cloud, Nebraska, is dedicated to advancing the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather and preserving the historical settings and archival material associated with her life and writings. The NWCC promotes and encourages increased understanding and appreciation of the life, times, settings, and work of Willa Cather through education, preservation, and the arts. This is accomplished through a variety of programs that encourage Cather studies and literary, historical, and cultural inquiry among a broad and varied audience. See http://www.willacather.org for more details on the activities of the organization.
The Humanities Internship at the NWCC offers an experiential learning opportunity for an advanced undergraduate (completed at least forty credit hours) or a graduate student in the humanities at the University of Nebraska (UNL, UNK, or UNO). The Humanities Intern will participate in the efforts of the NWCC in a variety of ways, such as archival processing and digitization; support and execution of educational programming; measuring impact through surveys and evaluation; research assistance; event and tour support; and more. The goal is to create an experience for the Humanities Intern that both addresses the needs of the NWCC and is relevant to the professional goals of the intern. Students who complete the internship will learn a variety of skills useful in many professional contexts, such as written and oral communication; workflow development; customer needs analysis; project management and assessment; collaborative teamwork; and event planning.
The Humanities Intern at the NWCC is expected to be in residence in Red Cloud, Nebraska, in order to work approximately 300 hours between May and August (specific schedule is flexible). A stipend of $4000 and housing will be provided.
Those interested in applying to the Humanities Internship at the NWCC should send a resume and letter of interest to Rachel Olsen (rolsen@willacather.org) by March 1, 2020. The letter of interest should
