Understanding Student Post-Graduation Plans

Each semester, University of Nebraska-Lincoln students graduate and begin their career and graduate school experiences. Through what is known as a First Destination Survey (FDS), University Career Services seeks to understand the career and graduate school plans of Nebraska students.
First destination information on students is crucial for UNL rankings at the national level and can have significant impact for individual colleges and majors as well. We all gain an advantage when a high number of students respond to the survey as it generates stronger data and perspectives on the career and graduate school paths of our students by college and major.
The survey is launched at the end of every semester through MyRed with a follow up survey and calls conducted by the Bureau of Sociological Research in the weeks following. Career Services ask all advisors, career and academic, to help promote completion of the survey by their graduating advisees. In MyRed, the survey is called the “Post-Graduation Plan Survey.” Students are prompted to complete it when they apply for graduation.
The information collected through the survey is reported only in aggregate and no personal identifiable information is released to the public.
