The Global Experiences Office (GEO) is hosting its third Husker Passport Giveaway (HPG) this fall. The goal of the HPG is to award 125 free passports, including 25 passports for first-year, Pell Grant eligible students made possible through a grant from the Institute of International Education (IIE).
Recipients will have the full cost of obtaining a U.S. passport covered by the program. The cost of a passport is approximately $180 (application fees + photos). To be considered, an applicant must be a current undergraduate student at Nebraska, actively enrolled in fall 2022, a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and applying for their first U.S. passport book (a student who previously had a passport card only is eligible).
Priority may be given to first generation college students and students who articulate financial need, have two or more semesters remaining before graduation, and plan to participate in an education abroad program. Recipients will be selected based on meeting eligibility requirements and the content of their very brief application essays.
Please help promote this opportunity to your students. The earlier students apply, the more competitive their application will be. Applicants are encouraged to submit by Aug. 31 or Sept. 15 for consideration in the first rounds of review. Saturday, Oct. 1 is the final deadline.
Recipients will receive support throughout the preparation and application process from the GEO staff and the UNL Passport Office. Passport appointments will be in late October to mid-November, with passports estimated to arrive by Feb. 1, 2023.
Please contact Angela Luedke aluedke@unl.edu or Rebecca Baskerville (rlbaskerville@unl.edu) with questions, to request printed materials, or schedule a presentation for your students.
