Encourage students to apply for the Fulbright Program

UNL Fulbright Program
UNL Fulbright Program

Do you know a standout undergraduate student — one who is especially inquisitive, engaged, and well prepared for graduate study and/or a leadership career?

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships seeks referrals of undergraduate juniors, graduating seniors, recent alumni, and graduate students who may be interested in applying for Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards for research, public service, graduate study, or English teaching abroad.

UNL students and alumni are frequently successful in application to these awards. Currently, six Husker alumni – Jaela Hardin, Rachael Lange, Dwight Miller, Francine Mace, McKenzie Nelson, and Sadie Ritter – are abroad as 2023-24 Fulbright Students. Ritter, a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, recently shared her adventures in Kazakhstan as an Instagram story (https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17989373675318366/) for the School of Global Integrative Studies.

Each summer, a cohort of Fulbright applicants participates in advising through a Canvas workspace and group workshop events. Detailed information is on our Fulbright advising page (https://careers.unl.edu/fulbright-u-s-student-program/) and our events calendar (https://events.unl.edu/URAF/).

In mid-May, students who join our Fulbright Interest List will be provided access to our Canvas workspace, where they can receive detailed, personalized guidance and application materials feedback. Interested students can also book an optional fellowships advising appointment, following guidance on the Fellowships website (https://fellowships.unl.edu/).

Fulbright seeks applicants from every major and field of study. To be eligible to apply to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program on the October 2024 national deadline, applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals and planning to earn a bachelor’s degree by August 2025.

To refer a student, contact Courtney Santos, director of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, at courtney.santos@unl.edu.

Staff and faculty applicants for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program are advised separately by Petrina Suiter, External Recognition and Awards Coordinator, Office of Research & Economic Development, at petrina.suiter@unl.edu.
