Learning Communities
The Learning Communities (LC) program has been a staple at UNL for 25 years - a program that blends the experience students have inside and outside the classroom. LC students take courses together, live together, and have opportunities to engage with faculty/staff sponsors in an exclusive way. The LC program will be evolving to meet the needs and interests of incoming students in the following ways:
• Consolidation of LCs for the 2025-26 year to 11 communities. You can view the list of LCs online: https://learncom.unl.edu/firstyear/
o 10 LCs will be hosted in University Suites and Eastside Suites.
o 1 CASNR-affiliated LC (Pre-Vet) will remain in Massengale.
• Piloting the concept of themed communities, which will have many of the same components of an LC – but most notably will not have an academic course component. The two themed communities this year are Branch Out: Joint ROTC and Into the Outdoors, a community focused on well-being and outdoor adventures.
University Housing and ASEM are now communicating these updates to prospective students.
Returning Student Housing Application
Current students can apply for 2025-2026 on-campus housing starting on November 4. The housing application is divided into three sections:
• Section 1: Join the Waitlist (opens November 4)
• Section 2: Roommate Finder (November 8-18)
• Section 3: Room Selection + Application Completion (December 2-6)
These three distinct sections ensure that Housing Assignments can control the traffic to each step of the process, improving the student experience and reducing the pressure that students feel when selecting their living arrangements.
