The 2025 Student Research Days is one month away! Event organizers in the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Undergraduate Research are seeking volunteers specifically to assist with event set-up, check-in, and tear-down activities between April 14th, 15th, and 16th.
The location for all volunteer activities will be at the Nebraska Union on City Campus, in the Centennial Room and Ballroom. Most, if not all, volunteer slots are two hours in length.
Floorplan & Poster Set-Up/Change-Out/Tear-Down
(These activities are where we need the most assistance from volunteers!)
Floorplan set-up/tear-down activities will ask volunteers to be on their feet indoors for no more than two hours per slot arranging materials. Arranging boards consists of moving and sliding objects on wheels, or bending to the floor to set up easels (similar to arranging camping tent poles). Poster set-up/change-out/tear-down activities will ask volunteers to use t-pins to position and secure posters, numbering, and nametags - this often involves raising your arms above your shoulder or head for extended periods of time and also applying pressure using fingertips to place t-pins.
Poster Drop-Off
Poster drop-off activities will ask volunteers to stay visible outside the entrance of the Centennial Room in order to record, organize, and store students' posters. This often involves sitting at a table or desk for extended periods of time, marking off students' names from a worksheet, and answering simple questions that students have about the session (i.e., start time, what their number is, what to wear - all information that is available on the Student Research Days website). Organizing posters in relation to their numbers is key for volunteers who will hang posters.
Presenter & Judge Check-In
Presenter and judge check-in activities will ask volunteers to be available and visible during the main poster session times, but no more than two hours per session. At the start of each session, volunteers will assist with placing tablecloths at the check-in desk and making sure that students know where they're going. If students arrive with a late poster to hang, volunteers will assist them with finding their spot and hanging poster. Volunteer judges will need to be formally checked-in and given a sheet of presenters who they will evaluate before heading into the session. As needed, assist with writing nametags or work with electronic equipment such as TVs.
