Mollie George, new instructor in Gerontology

The Department of Gerontology is delighted to announce the hiring of Mollie George for the UNL campus. Mollie is a full-time instructor and serves as the advisor and practicum coordinator for students at UNL.

Mollie has a strong background in the field of gerontology, having received her master’s degree in Gerontology from Concordia University in Seward. She is also completing her doctoral studies in Gerontology from UNO, working on the results of her dissertation focused on the effects of COVID-19 on older adults living in senior living communities.

Additionally, Mollie holds certifications as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and as a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (CMDCP).

Coupled with her education in gerontology, Mollie brings a strong background in the field of aging, working for organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and most recently, establishing a free respite program for people caring for someone with dementia (Messiah Respite Project partners with Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln). Mollie also has worked as adjunct faculty member in the department teaching courses in aging online and in person preparing her for this new role.

It is also worth noting Mollie is ASCP certified through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a licensed Clinical Laboratory Specialist. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in laboratory science from UNMC.

Mollie’s passion and enthusiasm for the study of aging shows in her interactions with the community and the students with whom she interacts. She is excited to work with the UNL advising community in engaging students to consider how they can pair their UNL major with an 18-hour certificate or minor in gerontology. Expect to hear from Mollie soon to schedule an appointment to discuss how the department can support the discussion with students about education in gerontology.

To reach Mollie, please email her at molliegeorge@unomaha.edu or at 402-472-0756. Her office is in Nebraska Hall, room 527.
