New Policy for Education Abroad ACE 9 Waiver

In collaboration with Associate Deans from each college, the office of Undergraduate Education Programs is supporting a new zero-credit course (UGEP 250) that is intended to add depth to the learning attained when students use their education abroad experience to fulfill their ACE 9 requirement.
When applying for an education abroad experience, students will be asked whether they plan to use their study abroad to support an ACE 9 waiver. If they reply in the affirmative, they will be directed to the office of Undergraduate Education Programs to receive a permission code that will allow them to enroll in the UGEP 250 section appropriate to their home college.
Requirements for the individual colleges vary slightly, but in general the instructor of each UGEP 250 section is the college-level Associate Dean who oversees ACE, and who will be functioning as the ACE 9 liaison for this option. Prior to departure, and depending upon the college-level requirements, students will work either with the ACE 9 liaison or with a faculty member or other academic advisor to identify one or more proposed topics for a minimum 5-page paper or other creative project. Topics must address an issue of global impact or aspects of human diversity related to the region in which they will be studying. Students will be required to submit their paper or project by the end of their semester abroad, and work must include evidence of research or further investigation into their proposed topic.
As in the past, to be eligible for this option students must complete a minimum of 3 academic credits through their education abroad program. Students who completed their education abroad experience prior to Fall 2019, and who would like to use the experience to fulfill their ACE 9 requirement, should contact Nicolette Brenton, Project Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Education Programs (brenton@unl.edu or 472-4030) for further information
