Dana Fritz Presentation at Homestead National Historical Park

Homestead National Historical Park Artist-in-Residence Dana Fritz will share her work and experiences at the Park at the close of her residency in a slide presentation at the Education Center on Saturday, October 16 at 2:00 pm.

Dana Fritz is Hixson-Lied Professor of Art in the School of Art, Art History & Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her work in photography addresses how humans imagine, represent, and shape the land. She has held artist residencies at locations known for their significant cultural histories and gardens or unique landscapes including Villa Montalvo in California; Château de Rochefort-en-Terre in France; Biosphere 2 in Arizona; Cedar Point Biological Station in Nebraska; and Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts in Wyoming. Her work has been exhibited widely in the United States as well as in Canada, France, China, South Korea, Japan, and the Netherlands. Her monograph Terraria Gigantica: The World under Glass about the world's largest enclosed landscapes was published by University of New Mexico Press in 2017 and her forthcoming book about the hand-planted Nebraska National Forest at Halsey is scheduled for release in 2022. This fall Dana was awarded a Faculty Development Leave and an Arts & Humanities Research Enhancement Grant to finish her book and begin new work including a project at Homestead National Historical Park.



Homestead National Historical Park is 46 miles south of Lincoln, near Beatrice, Nebraska on Highway 4. This National Park site houses the National Homesteading Museum with exhibits on the Homestead Act's influence on immigration, agriculture, industrialization, native tribes, the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and Federal land policies. The Park is located on the site of the first homestead in Nebraska and includes trails through native riparian woodland and 100 acres of restored tallgrass prairie. There is no admission charge for entrance to the Park or events.
