• Continuing through Oct. 2: MFA Graduates in Studio Art, Neil Celani+P.J. Hargraves. Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m. or by appointment. A maximum of 15 people are allowed in the space at a time.

• Sept. 23: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Malcolm Mobutu Smith, ceramics. 5:30 p.m. Available via Zoom at https://unl.zoom.us/j/94639024381. Smith is associate professor of ceramic art at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

• Sept. 24: Paul Barnes "A Bright Sadness." 7:30 p.m. Lied Center for Performing Arts. The event is free, but tickets are required and are available at https://tickets.liedcenter.org/2282. Celebrating his twenty-fifth year at the Glenn Korff School of Music, pianist and chanter Paul Barnes returns to the Lied Center for Performing Arts to present a contemplative and cathartic program of piano works inspired by the mystical world of Native American, Greek, Jewish, and Latin chant.

Graduate students from the Glenn Korff School of Music are celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a concert of youthful and lesser-known works by the master.

• Oct. 2: Nebraska Repertory Theatre and St. Louis Black Repertory Company presents "The Continuum: Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter." 6 p.m. Online streaming only. Suggested donation: $20 ($10 for students/OLLI), available at https://unltheatretickets.universitytickets.com. A collage of poetry, prose and music. Don't miss this unforgettable evening featuring some of The Black Rep's most talented actors and join us for an important conversation led by The Black Rep's Ron Himes and Nebraska Rep's Andy Park and Christina Kirk. The evening will feature discussion with scholars, artists, activists and you! It's time for #realchange.

• Oct. 3-4: UNL Opera presents "The Cunning Little Vixen." 5 p.m. each night. Free and open to the public. Outdoor patio of Kimball Recital Hall. Fully amplified, you'll be able to see and hear the opera from anywhere on the lawn of the arts quad. A wonderful story about the one-ness of man and nature, and the eternal cyclical regeneration of life, love, and hope.

• Oct. 17: Cellobration. All-day. Westbrook Music Building. Cellobration is open to cellists of all ages and will be hosted by Dr. Karen Becker, professor of cello in the Glenn Korff School of Music. This year’s event will take place in a virtual setting. Activities will include stretching for cellists, warm-ups, technique class, a workshop on how to improve sight reading skills, a final performance given by the UNL Cello Choir, select soloists from the UNL cello studio, Dr. Karen Becker, and guest cellist Dr. Ruth Boden. Students will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Boden, cello professor at Washington State University in a class on improvisation and alternative styles, as well as a masterclass.
