Four lectures will conclude the spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lecture series in the School of Art, Art History & Design. The series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Each lecture will be presented via Zoom and is open to the public.

On March 24, ceramic artist Deborah Schwartzkopf will present her lecture at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is available at https://unl.zoom.us/j/99934128248. Schwartzkopf is a Seattle-based studio potter making fine porcelain tableware through Rat City Studios. Ceramics Monthly awarded her Ceramic Artist of the Year in 2019.

On March 31, Joel Damon, the co-founder and co-curator of Project Project, an independent DIY contemporary arts space in South Omaha, will present a lecture at 5:30 p.m. The lecture will be available at https://unl.zoom.us/j/93925142986. He co-founded Project Project in South Omaha as a space of freedom and experimentation for regional artists and to test the limits and longevity of an active arts space where money is not a driving force and donors have no say in what is exhibited. Project Project has an all-volunteer staff and opens a new visual art exhibition each month, and hosts concerts, lectures, and performances, all free of charge for the public. It also provides free studio space for local artists.

On April 7, printmaker Noel Anderson will present a lecture at 5:30 p.m. The lecture will be available at https://unl.zoom.us/j/97084898481. Anderson is area head of printmaking in New York University’s Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions. He received an M.F.A. from Indiana University in printmaking and an M.F.A. from Yale University in sculpture. Anderson utilizes print-media and arts-based-research to explore philosophical inquiry methodologies.

Finally, on April 14, designer, educator and sustainabilitist Kristian Bjornard will present a lecture at 5:30 p.m. The lecture will be available at https://unl.zoom.us/j/95602330213. He is the director of The Office of Kristian Bjornard, a graphic design practice focusing on books, identities, websites and digital tools.

Underwritten by the Hixson-Lied Endowment with additional support from other sources, the series enriches the culture of the state by providing a way for Nebraskans to interact with luminaries in the fields of art, art history and design.
