Have you always wanted to play the piano? Or have you forgotten how to play piano since you were a child? Join Lincoln’s Community Piano Experience (CPE), a group piano class offered as an outreach of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music piano pedagogy program.

This program offers group piano classes that center on helping students develop basic music reading and piano-playing skills.

Cristina Vlad Hayes (DMA 2013) will be in her second semester teaching and coordinating the Lincoln CPE program.

“I believe community is where music happens at its best, and this course makes that enjoyment accessible to anyone, regardless of experience,” she said. “I think it’s the least intimidating way to gain confidence in a new skill. Whether you took lessons years ago or are starting for the first time, consider yourself qualified. We’d love to have you join us.”

Students who have never played the piano (or have forgotten their lessons from childhood) will be enrolled in the beginning class. There will be no beginner class offered in the spring semester. Watch for fall dates.

Students with some established piano and music reading skills will be enrolled in the intermediate class on Thursday evenings from Feb. 13-May 1 (no class on March 20). Classes will be held weekly from 5:30-7 p.m. each evening.

The class costs $195, which includes 11 weeks of group lessons, a textbook and all additional materials.

More information and registration are available at https://go.unl.edu/communitypianoexperience. The deadline to enroll is Feb. 6.
