Associate Professor of Art Francisco Souto presents an exhibition of new works titled "Poetics of Recognition" through May 31 at Kiechel Fine Art in Lincoln.
"Poetics of Recognition" is an exhibition structured around a sensorial awareness.
"My central preoccupation in this new body of work is the visual reconciliation of the influence that the Great Plains has had in my recent work," Souto said. "These works are evidence of my personal experiences suggesting clarifications through visual mesmerization in the search of the quotidian sublime. As these sensorial reverberations transformed themselves into this new body of work, I became aware that whatever happens to oneself should be considered resource material. All things have been presented to us for a purpose, and art should be considered a way of thinking through an image, as a testimony of a life lived."
Souto was born in Venezuela and received his BFA from the Herron School of Art and his MFA from The Ohio State University. He has participated in a wide range of national and international exhibitions throughout the United States, Europe, Venezuela, Russia, Egypt, China and Japan. The master printmaker has shared his expertise through workshops and as a visiting artist in the U.S. and abroad, garnering several awards and grants. His work is in several public and private collections around the world.
The show is free and open to the public. Kiechel Fine Art is located at 1208 O St. in Lincoln. Works from the exhibition can also be found on their website at http://www.kiechelart.com.
