• Jan. 16: Midwest Cup. All day. Lied Center for Performing Arts. For advanced ticket sales, contact the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747. The Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational is a full day of spectacular vocals and intense choreography, held in one of the premier venues for a show choir competition anywhere in the country.

• Jan. 17-23: Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region V Conference at Normandale Community College in Minnesota. Students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film will be competing and participating in this Festival. The KCACTF has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions throughout the country, where theater departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents.

• Jan. 19: William McMullen, oboe. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. McMullen, professor of oboe in the Glenn Korff School of Music, is principal oboe with Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra and oboist in the Moran Woodwind Quintet.

Jan. 20-Feb. 5: "Continuum: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture Alumni Invitational." Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. A First Friday reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 5 from 5-7 p.m.

• Jan. 21: Kevin Hanrahan, tenor, and Guest Artist Jeff Jones, baritone. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. Hanrahan currently holds the position of associate professor of voice and vocal pedagogy at UNL. Jeffrey L. Jones, baritone, is well versed in both stage and concert repertoire. Jones is a member of the music department faculty at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina.

Jan. 22-24: Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion. All day. Kimball Recital Hall. The Winter Festival is a unique three-day concert band and chamber ensemble festival for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Advance registration was required. Jan. 22-23: Undergraduate Audition Days for the Glenn Korff School of Music. Start the audition process and learn more by visiting http://music.unl.edu. Nebraska residents must complete an application to UNL by Jan. 15 to be eligible for academic scholarship awards.

Jan. 23: Winter Festival Chamber Performance. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. This performance is part of the three-day Winter Festival for high school concert bands and chamber ensembles.

Jan. 25: The Ladies of Broadway: A Celebration of American Song. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets: $5 general and $3 students/seniors available at the door. The Glenn Korff School of Music presents the 12th annual Celebration of American Song, hosted by Alisa Belflower, featuring UNL’s voice faculty, alumni and students.

Jan. 26: David Hall, percussion. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. Hall is assistant professor of percussion and jazz studies and coordinator of the percussion program.

Jan. 29: Chiara String Quartet. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets: $20 adults, $10 seniors and $5 students. For advance ticket sales, contact the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747. The program features Adolph Busch's Quintet for Saxophone and String Quartet with Paul Haar, saxophone; and Beethoven's String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 127.

Jan. 31: Clark Potter, viola. 3 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. The concert will also be webcast. Visit http://music.unl.edu on the day of the concert for the link. Potter is an associate professor of viola at UNL, where he is also on the conducting faculty. He is principal viola of Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra, director of NEBratsche (the UNL viola ensemble), and he is an active performer as a solo recitalist and chamber musician.
