The Glenn Korff School of Music will celebrate its annual Glenn Korff Day on Thursday, Sept. 7 with a special program at 3:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Glenn Korff Day serves each year to remind us of who Glenn Korff was, of the amazing things he accomplished as a professional and as a philanthropist, and of the heartwarming story of his remarkable naming gift to what is now UNL's Glenn Korff School of Music.
The Glenn Korff Day program will feature performances by our Korff Scholars and members of our faculty—this year that includes dancer Kennedy Rolfes and saxophonist Andrew Janak.
A native of Hebron, Nebraska, Korff lived in Boulder, Colorado, and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1965 with a chemistry major and was a member and former president of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
His passion for performing arts began on the Nebraska campus as a member of Kosmet Klub, a male musical and comedy ensemble, which he served as a set designer. He went to the University of Pennsylvania to receive an MBA in finance in 1968 and enjoyed a long career in the area of finance and investments, retiring from Goldman Sachs.
On Aug. 20, 2013, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln announced a gift of $8 million to the University of Nebraska Foundation from Korff to support the School of Music, which was renamed in his honor. Korff died on Aug. 27, 2013, shortly after announcing the gift.
