• Continuing through March 13: Nebraska Young Artist Awards/Statewide High School Invitational exhibition. Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. Seventy-nine students from across the state submitted work for the exhibition, which is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts' Nebraska Young Artist Awards visual arts component and sponsored by the School of Art, Art History & Design. A reception will be held on Friday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m., where the visual art winners of the Nebraska Young Artist Awards will be announced.

• March 1: Chamber Singers. 7:30 p.m. St. Mark's on the Campus, 1309 R St., in Lincoln. Free and open to the public.

• March 2: "Ladies at the Fair: Women and the Trans-Mississippi & International Exposition" gallery talk featuring Associate Professor of Art History Wendy J. Katz. 4-6 p.m. W. Dale Clark (Main) Library, 215 S. 15th St. in Omaha. Free and open to the public.

• March 2-16: Nebraska Repertory Theatre presents "Avenue Q." Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theater. Visit https://go.unl.edu/ggg9 for showtimes and ticket information. Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, "Avenue Q" is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends, monsters are good and life lessons are learned. This show contains adult content and themes including full puppet nudity. Directed by Nebraska Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Andy Park.

• March 4: Faculty Recital: Paul Haar, saxophone. 3 p.m. Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119. Free and open to the public.

• March 6: Symphonic Band. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets: $5 general and $3 students/seniors, available at the door. This concert will also be live webcast. Visit http://music.unl.edu the day of the concert for the link. The program is titled "Double X." The concert celebrates women composers with works by Jennifer Higdon, Julie Giroux, Chen Yi and Kimberly Archer. Professor of Saxophone Paul Haar will also join the band for the Nebraska premiere performance of "Street Hawker, Concerto for Saxophone and Wind Sinfonietta" by University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumna Rachel Lanik Whelan. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Tony Falcone.

• March 7: Wind Ensemble. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets: $5 general and $3 students/seniors, available at the door. This March concert features the world premiere of "Through My Eyes," a large-scale work by DMA composition candidate Marat Sanatulov, conducted by DMA conducting associate Christopher Brandt. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Carolyn Barber.

• March 8: Faculty Recital: Jonah Sirota, viola. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free and open to the public.

• March 9: Faculty Recital: Gregory Beaver, cello, & David Hall, percussion. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free and open to the public.

• March 16: Concordia String Trio. 7 p.m. First Plymouth Church, 2000 D St. in Lincoln. Free and open to the public. The Concordia String Trio includes Professor of Cello Karen Becker, violinist Marcia Henry Liebenow of Bradley University and violist Leslie Perna of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

• March 28: Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture by Patricia Johnston. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Johnston studies how early American arts were influence by global trade, especially trade with Asia. She is the Rev. J. Gerard Mears, S.J., Chair in Fine Arts and Chair of the Visual Arts Department at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester Massachusetts, and a nationally recognized scholar of American art and its wider visual culture. The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

This student showcase is directed by Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Director Harris Smith. Get a glimpse of future Rep actors, singers, directors and designers at The Rep’s first annual Rising Stars Student Showcase. The evening will feature the very best student work of the year from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. Get an entertaining and moving glimpse of the impact theater training is making in the lives of these emerging artists.
