David Olson is a Professor in the College of Business Administration and James and H.K. Stuart Chancellors Distinguished Chair and Coordinator of Operations and Supply Chain Management program.

Dr. Olson defines big data as the field of application processing and analyzing masses of data generated from various sources, to include machine-generated data, social media data, scientific data, and data generated internally within organizations.

In the field of supply chain management, my focus is on supply chain integration, decision making, operations management, systems simulation and analysis; and quantitative data analysis. My research focuses on decision making, simulation, quantitative analysis, data mining and supply chain.

Supply chain management professionals are involved in the process from raw materials extraction to consumer purchase, ensuring the right product is in the hands of the right consumer at the right time. Supply chain management professionals and their problem-solving and communication skills are in demand across the globe with careers in purchasing, logistics, new product delivery, global sourcing and procurement, quality management, inventory control, traffic analysis and operations and supplier retail management.

David Olson received his Ph.D. in General Business at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, an M.B.A. from Kearney State College and a B.S. in Mathematics from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. His teaching interests are project management, decision support systems, simulation, quantitative analysis, decision theory, and supply chain and has published numerous journal articles, books and papers, given presentations and received awards throughout his career.
