Genetic Analysis Workshop (GAW) is a collaborative scientific effort among genetic epidemiologists to evaluate and compare statistical genetic methods. Each workshop is based on a challenge problem to the scientific community associated with genetic analysis.
This year the challenge was to discover associations between response to treatment for metabolic syndrome and genome-wide methylation and SNP markers, using data from the GOLDN study. Dr. Xu organized a group of faculty and researchers to analyze this data, and was invited to present their results at the GAW20 workshop in San Diego, CA. A publication based on their results is currently under review at BMC Proceedings.
A Research Assistant Professor in the department of Statistics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Xu has 18 published research papers, two book reviews: Andy Hector (2015): The New Statistics with R: An Introduction for Biologists and Martin Bland (2015): An introduction to medical statistics as well as 95 google scholar citations. He currently serves as associate editor for The Asian Education Technology Conference (AETC) and BioMed Central (BMC) Research Notes and is a reviewer for the following journals: Bioinformatics; Human Genetics; Gene; PLOS One; Scientific Reports; Journal of Applied Statistics; BMC Health Services Research; Public Health Nutrition; Journal of Financial Economic Policy; China Health Review; Journal of Finance and Economics; Journal of Finance and Accounting; Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology and Frontiers in Public Health.
