Unmanned aircraft safety research, that Wayne Woldt has been leading, is featured in an Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) national publication entitled “Drone Pilot”. The research seeks to develop and demonstrate a new unmanned aircraft safety beacon, that will help to reduce the likelihood of a piloted aircraft colliding into an unmanned aircraft. “Unfortunately, pilots of agricultural spray planes are flying in the same airspace as unmanned aircraft that are flying agricultural remote sensing missions, and this leads to the potential for a collision,” according to Woldt. His new safety beacon, called the NU-AIRE Safety Beacon, has proven capable of providing a warning to piloted aircraft that are approaching a given area, in which unmanned aircraft are present. Woldt presented his research at a recent unmanned aircraft conference, Xponential 2017, and the published article can be found at: https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2017/may/15/simple-safe-separation-for-drones?utm_source=drone=utm_medium%3demail
