Name: Krista Roebke
Job Title: Child Welfare Training Coordinator
Where do you hail from:
Ogallala, NE. My folks are both retired and still living there. We have been in Lincoln for about 13 years.
What is it they say you do:
I coordinate the classroom training for all New Worker training for Child and Family Services Specialists across the state. I also train Case Management, the initial assessment process specifically, and a few other topics related to initial assessment. I am a facilitator for the Child Interviewing class, a video reviewer for the Testifying courses, and a trainer for our Introduction to Child Protection and Safety class. In the last few months, I primarily have been preparing to transition curriculum that I train to distance learning, which has been a huge learning curve for me. The new training model is scheduled to start this May.
Who are your early influences/who inspired you most:
I would say my mom has been my biggest inspiration in my life. She is an incredible woman with such admirable inner strength, selflessness, and courage. She has always been my guide, my protector, but most of all, my friend. She has an incredible faith that inspires me every time I am around her.
What has been your greatest source of career satisfaction/ proudest achievement:
This is a hard question. I have a few families that I worked with in Colorado when I was a caseworker in Adams County who truly made incredible progress and had their children returned to their care. They were so excited and thankful, which inspired me to keep working in this field. It is not often that you see families have a lot of successes, so when you do it is very rewarding as a caseworker.
The other greatest professional moment was when Shelly Johnson called to tell me I had gotten the position at CCFL. I had wanted to work here for over two years; but due to budget cuts/hiring freezes at DHHS, the position was unable to be filled. The day that I learned KVC was going to be closing in SESA, I called Shelly to inquire about the position I had interviewed for two years prior. She called back and said they got the approval to fill the position. I was over the moon!!! It continues to be the most rewarding, positive, and encouraging work environment with amazing co-workers and supervisors that I have ever worked. With that being said, I plan to retire from here.
Family life/hobbies /community involvement:
My personal life is very full with my boys’ activities. I have two boys, Kamdyn (12) and Noah (8). They both play football, basketball, and baseball. My husband, Jeremy, is typically coaching one or more of their sports as well. Most of our weekends and evenings are spent watching their games, traveling to tournaments, going to practices, or private lessons. We truly love it, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else than on the field watching them.
Personally, I really enjoy running. I have ran in about 15 half marathons and four full marathons since 2005. I qualified and had the opportunity to run in the Boston Marathon in 2014, the year after the bombing. It was a very surreal experience that I will never forget. It was the most difficult course I have ever run. Running is my time to decompress, gather my thoughts, and process through things on my mind. When I don’t get a run in, my kids and my husband would tell you that I can be a very cranky mommy.
The quotation I live my life by is......
”Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your ways, acknowledge him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5
