Bio-Fiber Development Laboratory

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design (TMFD) invites the campus communities to an open house to showcase its new Bio-Fiber Development Laboratory, located on east campus immediately west of Ag Hall, near the Holdrege St. entrance to east campus loop. The open house takes place on Wednesday November 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and a light lunch buffet will be served. Members of Dr. Yiqi Yang's research team will be on hand to welcome visitors and to answer questions.

The Bio-Fiber Development Laboratory exists to advance research into the uses of abundant and inexpensive lignocellulosic agricultural crop residues for textiles, composites, filters and other high-value-added products. Production of testable quantities of bio-fibers will allow the textile science team to demonstrate the feasibility of developing a multitude of high value products from renewable raw material resources generated by the state's agricultural systems.

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design creates, disseminates and applies knowledge about textile and apparel products, their development, design, distribution, performance and consumption for the global community. The department accomplishes its mission with an integrative approach based on scientific, aesthetic and historic frameworks. Teaching, research/creative and extension/outreach programs enable TMFD's faculty, students and constituents to participate constructively and innovatively in the public and private domains.
