BE READY: WINDOWS XP Support Going Away April 8, 2014

Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of April 8, 2014. As a result, there will no longer be any security updates or bug fixes that help protect your PC.

All XP computers on campus will either need to have the OS updated or be removed from the network. If you have an XP machine on campus, please contact your local IT tech support to help you identify the best solution for your situation.

For home, you can continue to use your computer running Windows XP, but it will be more vulnerable to security risks and malware. Your personal credentials and identity can be at risk on a PC running Windows XP after April 8, 2014. Furthermore, if your credentials are compromised and you log on to the university systems, those systems may be placed at risk.

After April 8, 2014 anyone connecting to university network resources may be required to have an updated operating system (i.e., Window 7 or 8). Anyone attempting to access SAP Business System with a computer running Windows XP will be blocked and redirected to an explanatory page. Firefly can be accessed still with a Windows XP machine, but you are strongly encouraged to update to a newer Windows system.

If your computer hardware supports Windows 7 or 8, you can purchase the software from the UNL Computer Shop. If your computer hardware does not support Windows 7 or 8, you will need to upgrade your hardware or purchase a new computer with a newer operating system.
