Rasma Strautkalns officially retired January 8, 2015 as full-time Staff Secretary for the Buros Center for Testing. She will continue to work for Buros as a temporary/part-time staff member for the near future. Details for a retirement reception in her honor will be announced at a later date.

Strautkalns, who has a bachelor’s degree from UNL’s College of Business Administration, has worked for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for more than 30 years. She joined Buros in May 2000 after working 16 years for Student Support Services in the Multicultural Affairs office. Her duties at Buros included answering phones, keeping records and budget details, placing orders for supplies, and preparing documents for staff meetings. She was particularly conscientious about assisting callers with questions about the Buros Center's products and services ("my customers," she says) and patrons of the Buros Library.

Strautkalns says the thing she will miss the most about working at Buros is the people. “I enjoyed getting up and coming to work every day. Buros is like a family – the people here are so nice and everyone helps each other out whenever necessary.”

Strautkalns is looking forward to participating in more Latvian community events and activities in her retirement as well as continuing to be a member of the University’s All-Collegiate Choir. She would also like to travel more, possibly taking a trip back to her home country of Latvia next summer.

The faculty and staff members at the Buros Center for Testing encourage you to join them in wishing Rasma the best as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement. Plans are being made to fill her vacated position with a new full-time staff member as early as February. Stay tuned for more information about her retirement reception.
