The Dr. Ron Joekel Research Award is an honor recognizing outstanding research conducted by a UNL Education graduate student. Dr. Joekel is a long-standing Phi Delta Kappa member who has served in a multitude of leadership roles including Chapter President, Chapter Advisor, and International Director of PDK. The UNL PDK Chapter will present a $1500 award each year to the honoree at one of the annual PDK meetings.

Award Criteria:
• The applicant must be a registered graduate student (masters level or above) at UNL during the 2014-15 academic years.
• The applicant must present his or her research project to local educators at a PDK meeting. The recipient will be encouraged to join PDK.
• I accordance with the PDK tenets (leadership, research, and service), the research project must advance the field of education and enhance educational practice.
• The research project must utilize strong, professionally-accepted research methods and techniques.
• The research project must employ high quality academic writing and scholarly conventions.
• The reference letter must provide compelling support for the quality of the applicant.

The following application materials are required:
• A letter of application – In one page or less, the applicant should state how his or her research project meets the award criteria and who he or she wishes to share the research with PDK members. Applicant should also include contact information (email or phone number) in the letter.
• One reference letter – The letter should be submitted from a faculty and/or graduate committee member who can describe the candidate’s qualifications as a research in the submitted project.
• A research project – Examples of research projects include: a dissertation, a thesis, a conference paper, a scholarly journal article, or a research report written for a course.
