The Campus Red Cross Club will be hosting a blood drive on July 17 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in a mobile unit in the Outdoor Adventures parking lot.

June 11th, the American Red Cross launched the Missing Type campaign to encourage new blood donors, as well as donors who have not given in years, to donate blood and help ensure lifesaving blood products are available for patients in need.

-Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. But for the past four years, new Red Cross donors declined by about 80,000 each year.
-A recent national survey, conducted on behalf of the Red Cross, revealed the following perception of blood donations.
-74% of the public underestimate how frequently blood transfusions occur*
-Nearly half of the public, 45% know someone who has been helped by a blood transfusion* Yet only 3% of the U.S. population donates in a given year.
-More than one-third (35%) of the public has never considered that blood may not be available when they or a loved one needed it*

Blood shortages are not uncommon in the United States and can only be prevented when more people roll up a sleeve to give.

To schedule a time please go to https://www.redcrossblood.org. Walk ins are always welcome. To donate blood you must be 16 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.
