Research Opportunities
CHEM 398 – Research in the Chemistry Department
- Work directly with a UNL Chemistry faculty member.
- Earn 1–6 credit hours (graded or Pass/No Pass).
- Ideal for students needing upper-level credit hours and/or BS Chemistry, Professional Option.
Steps to enroll:
- Identify a Chemistry faculty member and email them about available research opportunities.
- After approval, complete paperwork and safety trainings with Kayleen Walsh (kwalsh8@nebraska.edu, Chem Resource Center, 228 Hamilton Hall, M-F 8am-5pm).
- Receive a permission code to enroll in CHEM 398.
CASC 98 – Research Across Departments
- Participate in research in any program, lab, or department (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Science, etc.).
- 0 credit hours (Pass/No Pass) for 45+ contact hours.
- Perfect if you don’t need additional credit hours.
Steps to enroll:
- Contact the faculty member or department for opportunities. Need help? Reach out to your CAS Career Coach.
- Complete the CAS Research EL Form: CAS Research Agreement.
- Receive a permission code to self-enroll in CASC 98.

Internship Opportunities
CASC 095/395 – Arts & Sciences Internship
- Earn 0, 1, or 3 credits while working at a career-related internship.
- Complete 90–135+ hours depending on credit enrollment.
Steps to enroll:
- Complete the Internship Agreement Form: CAS Internship Agreement.
- Note the number of credit hours you want to take (0–1 credit = 90+ hrs; 3 credits = 135+ hrs).
