Nebraska’s history is full of immigrant stories. From Pioneers and Homesteaders to current refugees and
immigrants, the plains of Nebraska have held the promise of opportunity for generations. Never an easy journey, immigrants have come to Nebraska to escape religious persecution, economic turmoil, war, and other kinds of violence. Once they arrive, the jobs available required long hours, mental stamina and hard physical labor. Today, 6.5% of Nebraska’s population are foreign born. But the majority of the population can trace their ancestry back to European immigrants. Nebraska’s history cannot be told without the hard work and dedication of immigrant families. Join the Center for Civic Engagement as we navigate through Nebraska’s past, examine the current state of immigration policy in the United States and look towards a future for our local and international communities.
Students will travel to Scottsbluff and Grand Island Nebraska to engage these issues and serve in their communities. The ASB is over Fall Break from October 14th- October 18th.
