Plan for the Future During National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month

Nebraskans understand that natural disasters like tornadoes and hail can happen when least expected. National Preparedness Month, organized in September by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, aims to mitigate these disasters and protect individuals, families, and communities through effective plans of action. Learning life saving skills, creating action plans, and taking practical safety steps are the core objectives of the project.Within the project, FEMA has designated each week in September to improving certain aspects of preparedness. Making and practicing safety plans, learning life saving skills such as CPR, checking insurance coverage, and saving for an emergency are the respective objectives for each week. The 4 weekly objectives culminate in a day of action on September 15, and there are many ways to get involved. Donate supplies to recognized response organizations for Tropical Storm Gordon in the Gulf or volcanic disaster in Hawaii. Get involved in the Nebraska Citizen Corp to receive training on effective preparedness practices. Additionally, the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency provides guidelines on how to build your own kit in case of a disaster. For more information on National Preparedness Month and how you can help yourself and others, visit FEMA's website at https://www.ready.gov/and NEMA's website at https://nema.nebraska.gov/
