Website CMS upgrade and engineering webpages

Earlier this year, the UNL Digital Experience Group (DXG) announced that they will be upgrading the university’s web content management system (CMS) to the newest generation of Drupal. The current platform is now 10 years old; within this platform specifically, the College of Engineering hosts more than 120 sites and approximately 8,000 pages under the engineering.unl.edu domain.

Over the long term, these updates will include enhancements to make updating webpages easier and more efficient. In the short term, the changeover will require a total site rebuild. The deadline for these updates is September 2024.

The college’s web specialist, Matt Honke, will lead this project for engineering. If you currently have a website (lab, research group, RSO, etc.) or web grouping (such as department or program sites) under the engineering domain, Matt will reach out at some point to coordinate that rebuild. In many cases, this should require little to no effort on your part; you will be asked to refrain from making updates to your existing site while the new one is under construction.

There will most likely be unexpected challenges due to the complexity of a project this size, but the next generation of the web will enable us to tell our stories in new ways.

If you have questions or concerns, contact JS Engebretson (jengebretson2@unl.edu) or Matt Honke (mhonke10@unl.edu).
