It is with sadness that we were informed of the passing of Dr. John Ballard April 29 from kidney cancer. John was a long-time and valued member of the faculty, and later served as associate dean of the college, from 1974-2011.
John graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he earned three degrees in industrial engineering. He then joined the faculty at Nebraska Engineering in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering. He served as associate dean from 1994-2007 and then returned to teaching until he retired in 2011.
Funeral services are scheduled for May 3 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln (2110 Sheridan Blvd.). Friends are welcome to stop by the family home from 5-9 p.m. Monday, May 2 (tonight).
John remained loyal to the Arkansas Razorbacks and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved playing golf, especially with his sons, and was also in a UNL league for years.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, two sons and other family members.
Memorials (in lieu of flowers) may be sent to the University of Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineering Academic Scholarship #3000213 (http://www.onlinegiving.uark.edu) or the American Cancer Society.
