OUCH! That Stereotype HURTS! training will be Oct. 23.

We are proud to announce the first Association for Women in Science (AWIS) event of the academic year for faculty – “OUCH! That Stereotype HURTS!” training presented by Dr. Karen Kassebaum, Director of UNL Staff Diversity and Inclusion. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2-3 p.m. in the Union Room, Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center.

The objectives of the OUCH! Program are to help you:

*Understand the impact of stereotypes and biased statements, even when casually said.

*Identify the most common reasons people sit silent in the face of bias and stereotypes.

*Enhance your skills for speaking up against stereotypes without blame or guilt

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln became an institutional partner to AWIS in 2017 and a steering committee was formed. As part of the partnership, all Nebraska students, undergraduates and graduates, have a free membership (https://www.awis.org/join/). Our mission is “To create campus culture to increase participation and impact in all areas of STEM and at all levels in the academy and the broader scientific community”. We have been working hard over the last year and we plan to provide workshops and activities for faculty, staff, and students focused on improving campus culture and participation of women.

We look forward to seeing you on Oct. 23!
