Computer Science and Engineering Advisor Dr. Ann Koopmann is this year's recipient of the Dr. Charles Riedesel Outstanding Academic Advising Award.
The Dr. Charles Riedesel Outstanding Academic Advising Award honors an exceptional faculty or staff member for advising services beyond basic job duties and responsibilities to provide support, empowerment, coaching, counseling and guidance to help undergraduate students succeed academically and in life. The award is named for Dr. Charles Riedesel, former advisor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who devotes much of his time to recruiting and advising computer science and engineering majors.
Recipients are nominated by other members of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln community. Koopmann’s nominators shared that she has a special talent for prioritizing students, creating inclusive environments, and helping others identify their goals and potential:
“What sets Dr. Koopmann apart from others is her unwavering stance on promoting an inclusive environment. As a coordinator of the CSE Learning Assistant Program, she has made an emphasis on recognizing biases. Dr. Koopmann facilitated several group discussions on bias awareness and actively provides unique perspectives in committee discussions.”
“Much like Dr. Riedesel, Dr. Koopmann puts the students first, last, and everywhere in between in her priorities.”
“She caringly and supportively broke down every doubt I had placed on myself. She gave me confidence, and she talked me through a safety net in case. Later on, I decided something wasn’t for me.”
Congratulations to Dr. Ann Koopmann on this outstanding achievement!
